Business needs
Locating reliable and credible resources and community support for individuals with cerebral palsy can be a daunting task.
My CP Guide, a collaboration between Cerebral Palsy Australia and Two Bulls, aimed to address this gap by creating a user-friendly, accessible platform offering dependable information and assistance across the cerebral palsy journey.
Fulfilling Unmet Needs:
Through market research, information resources audits, and gap analysis, My CP Guide identified unmet needs and developed resources to support users.
The platform provides a wealth of information, research, and personal stories about caring for individuals with cerebral palsy while recognising each individual's unique experiences.
My CP Guide is a comprehensive platform
Guidelines
Platform is dedicated to providing high-quality, consistent, and accessible information for people with cerebral palsy, their families, caregivers, and relevant professionals.
The platform was initiated in response to the challenges faced by more than 37,000 Australians living with cerebral palsy, the most prevalent physical disability in childhood.
Adapting to the Pandemic:
Challenges
The COVID-19 pandemic underscored the importance of online mechanisms
in providing current information and staying connected with the community, particularly vulnerable communities and people with disabilities.
My CP Guide's goal is to deliver content to all individuals in a way that meets their needs and preferences.
The Inclusive Approach:
Working process
My CP Guide recognised the diversity of conditions within cerebral palsy and made web accessibility a top priority from the outset.
People with impairments actively participated in development to ensure accessibility for those using complex assistive technology or with physical, vision, hearing, or cognitive limitations.
Co-Design:
The co-design process involved continuous consultation with people with cerebral palsy, enabling iterative feedback and user experience enhancements.
Vibrant accent colours were introduced to represent users' individuality and personalise their experience. Content hierarchy received careful attention to ensure readability and logical content order.
Accessible for All:
The co-design process involved continuous consultation with people with cerebral palsy, enabling iterative feedback and user experience enhancements.
My CP Guide's design prioritizes accessibility for all users, regardless of how they interact with a computer.
Incorporating accessibility into the design process guarantees a straightforward user journey, accommodating mouse and keyboard users, keyboard-only users, and those relying on voice navigation.
My CP Guide operates under the principles of the social model of disability, seeking to change societal attitudes to fully include people living with cerebral palsy, rather than changing individuals with cerebral palsy to accommodate society.
Social Model of Disability:
Challenges
The platform provides high-quality, expertly curated, and consistent information to empower informed choices and minimize the risk of harm and financial exploitation.
My CP Guide's journey is a testament to our commitment to creating inclusive platforms that bridge knowledge gaps, empower communities, and promote social change. By putting accessibility and community engagement at the forefront, we've helped redefine how information and support are provided to those living with cerebral palsy and their caregivers.
